What is vibe coding? What to prepare before building an app with AI
Learn why MVP scope, project specs, safe task boundaries, and human review matter before turning an app idea into code with AI.
What is vibe coding?
Vibe coding is a practical way to shape an app idea with the help of AI-powered coding tools. The user describes the idea, and the AI tool helps draft screens, components, data fields, flows, documentation, or code suggestions. This approach can be useful for small MVPs, prototypes, personal tools, and early product experiments. But vibe coding should not mean “ask AI to build everything and publish it immediately.” App development is not only code generation. User needs, data structure, screen flow, error states, security, testing, maintenance, and post-launch review all matter. AI can speed up some steps, but a vague idea, oversized scope, or unchecked code can create unexpected problems. A safer way to approach vibe coding is to prepare a small and clear project frame first. Instead of asking AI to build the whole app at once, define the idea, target user, MVP scope, screen list, data fields, out-of-scope features, and review steps.
1. Reduce the app idea to one clear sentence
The broader the app idea, the more scattered the AI output can become. “Build a language learning app” is too wide. A clearer starting point is: “A simple vocabulary practice app for beginners that teaches 10 words a day.” A good idea sentence includes three parts: who it is for, what problem it solves, and how small the first version should be. For example: “A mobile app that gives daily photo practice tasks to beginner photographers.” Or: “A simple web tool that helps small teams organize weekly content ideas.” This sentence becomes the foundation for all later AI tasks. If the idea cannot be explained in one sentence, it may be too large for the first version. In vibe coding, the best starting point is a small but understandable problem.
